PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two residents who pulled a dog from a water-filled culvert along State Route 125 received the Pierce Township Police Department’s Golden Ticket award for their efforts, the department said.
Officers responded about 3 p.m. Oct. 1 to the 1300 block of State Route 125 on a report of a loose dog, according to the department. Linda Hays found the dog in a culvert pipe spillway and began offering it treats to coax it out of the water. Kimberly Claire also stopped to help.

After several unsuccessful attempts to secure the dog with a leash, Hays entered the water herself and was able to leash the animal and bring it to safety, the department said. Animal control was called to the scene to assist.
Officer Dakota Gullett presented Hays and Claire each with a Pierce Township Police Department Golden Ticket for going above and beyond to help an animal in need, according to the department.

The Golden Ticket program recognizes Pierce Township residents who are “caught doing good things” in the community. Officers who witness or learn of a good deed present the resident with a ticket and a gift card, with support from Walmart and Cincinnati Print Solutions.
Pierce Township police is led by Chief Paul Broxterman, who was appointed to the position in February 2022 after 33 years with the Cincinnati Police Department, where he held the rank of captain for 16 years.
