BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Township trustees will introduce a new sheriff’s deputy and recognize a deputy and his bloodhound when the Board of Trustees holds its regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, according to the agenda posted by the township ahead of the session.
Deputy Jace Canter will be introduced to the board under the meeting’s sheriff’s department report, while Deputy Dylan Bailey will be recognized along with his bloodhound, the agenda shows. Bailey is one of eight full-time Clermont County sheriff’s deputies currently assigned to Batavia Township under the township’s police services contract, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputies patrol in cruisers marked “Batavia Township” and work out of a sub-station at 1535 Clough Pike — the same building where trustees will hold the Oct. 6 meeting.
Batavia Township is one of four Clermont County jurisdictions, along with Monroe, Franklin and Washington townships, that contract with the sheriff’s office for police coverage rather than maintaining their own department, according to the sheriff’s office.
Trustees are also scheduled to take up a resolution declaring the township’s intent to enter a memorandum of understanding with Central Joint Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4273 covering staffing and employee benefits for firefighters transitioning to a new Batavia Township Fire Department in 2028, according to the agenda. The move is contingent on voters approving the township’s Nov. 3 fire levy. The 8.4-mill continuing levy would fund an independent township fire department, replacing the township’s current arrangement with the Central Joint Fire and EMS District. Voters rejected a 9.5-mill levy for the same purpose in May.
Other business on the Oct. 6 agenda includes a recommendation to create a Parks and Events Advisory Committee, with Jason Petty, Jody Stephens, Granville Jacobs and Jeff Burschard proposed as members, and a resolution to replace the State Route 32 gateway sign after an Aug. 31 crash, with costs reimbursed through a Westfield Insurance claim, according to the agenda. Trustees are also scheduled to approve the township’s 2027 membership in the Clermont Chamber of Commerce and consider agreements with Duke Energy for up to 10 new streetlights on township roads.
The meeting will be held at the Batavia Township Community Center and Park, 1535 Clough Pike, and is open to the public. Residents may submit comments using forms provided at the meeting, the agenda states.
