BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Village Council is looking for a resident to fill a vacant seat left by the retirement of Mayor C. Scott Runck, the village said in a Facebook post.
The seat opened following Runck’s retirement from the mayor’s office, according to the village. Under Ohio Revised Code 731.43, the remaining council members will appoint someone to serve the rest of the unexpired term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2027.

To be considered, an applicant must be at least 18 years old, have lived within the Village of Batavia’s voting jurisdiction for at least one full year immediately before the appointment and be a registered elector in the village, the village said.
Residents interested in serving can email a letter of interest and current resume to Justin Russell, the village’s clerk of council, at [email protected]. Applications are due by close of business Friday, Oct. 23. The village said candidates may be interviewed Monday, Oct. 26.
Batavia operates as a statutory village under Ohio law, governed by an elected mayor and a six-member council that passes local ordinances and resolutions. Under the state’s general vacancy statute, a village council that does not fill an opening within 30 days cedes the appointment power to the mayor.
