BATAVIA, Ohio — Duke Energy will begin gas service work throughout the Village of Batavia starting Aug. 1, with crews expected to scout locations in the coming days ahead of that start date, the utility said in a Facebook post.
The work is being carried out by AMS Construction, a contractor authorized by Duke Energy, and covers two separate programs, according to the post.
The first program replaces older metallic gas service lines with modern plastic lines. Those visits are by appointment only, and Duke Energy said affected customers will be contacted directly to schedule a time.
The second program permanently closes inactive gas lines at the main for services that have shown no activity in 36 months. That work does not require an appointment, since the lines are no longer in use, according to the post.
Duke Energy said affected customers have already received a postcard from the utility and AMS Construction with details specific to their property, and residents who received one should refer to it.
The utility also cautioned residents to be alert for scams. Because service replacement visits are scheduled only by appointment, Duke Energy said residents should be cautious of anyone arriving unannounced and claiming to need access to a home, and should verify identification before allowing entry.
Residents can expect to see crews, vehicles and equipment in neighborhoods across the village while the work is underway, the utility said.
