BATAVIA, Ohio — Clermont County has ended its contract with an outside janitorial services company and is hiring an in-house custodial staff to clean its buildings, according to the county.
The Clermont County Board of Commissioners voted May 20 to add janitorial positions to the county’s Department of Facilities Management, a move officials said will improve efficiency and security at buildings that hold private and confidential records.
The county previously contracted out cleaning for many of its facilities, including court buildings, the Job & Family Services and Public Health offices, Permit Central, the Water Resources administration building, the fleet department and the engineer’s highway operations center, according to the county.
Several maintenance custodians have already been hired under the new arrangement, and the county expects Facilities Management to be fully staffed by the end of August. The full-time employees will be responsible for cleaning 26 buildings across the county’s campus areas on Main Street, Bauer Road, Clermont Center Drive, Filager Road and State Route 222 in Batavia, the county said.
County administration will continue to work alongside the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office’s Trustee Program, which allows low-risk jail inmates to perform supervised janitorial and basic maintenance work at several county buildings. Participating inmates are not paid but earn credit toward their sentences, according to the county.
