PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Pierce Preserve & Trails has reopened to hikers, more than two weeks after a storm knocked down trees and scattered debris across the park’s walking paths, Pierce Township said in a social media post.
The township said the roughly 3 miles of unpaved trails winding through the preserve’s creek valleys and prairie land are now safe for visitors following storm cleanup.
The park, at 3131 Pond Run Road in New Richmond, closed indefinitely on July 22 after a storm swept through the township, knocking down trees and limbs across the property, township officials said at the time. The debris left the trails unsafe for hikers, and the township said its service department would finish clearing storm damage from township roads before turning to the preserve.
Pierce Preserve & Trails is one of seven parks Pierce Township maintains for residents. The preserve includes more than 20,000 square feet of native wildflowers planted in its prairie areas and about 20 parking spots, and is open daily from dawn until dusk, according to the township.
