MARATHON, Ohio — A Batavia maintenance company has donated a new flagpole to Marathon Park, giving Jackson Township’s only public park a permanent home for the American flag, township trustees said.
The trustees credited Mullins Maintenance LLC with supplying and installing the pole, calling it “a lasting symbol of patriotism and community pride” in a social media post this week. Trustees said the addition would not have been possible without the company’s donation of materials and labor.
Mullins Maintenance LLC is a commercial and residential maintenance company based in Batavia that has operated since 1996, according to promotional materials the business shared alongside the township’s announcement.
Marathon Park sits on about 5 acres at 5464 Marathon Edenton Road, just north of state Route 50 in the unincorporated community of Marathon. The township-owned park includes a walking and biking trail, a playground, a basketball court and a picnic shelter with grills, and is open from dawn to dusk year-round, according to the township website.
Township trustees are elected to four-year terms and serve as the township’s executive officers, overseeing funding, taxation and purchasing and holding title to its public property, including the park. The board holds regular business meetings on the first Monday of each month at the Jackson Township Community Center in Williamsburg.
Trustees said they were grateful for community partners like Mullins Maintenance that continue to invest in the township and its parks.
