BATAVIA, Ohio — A Clermont County woman charged with animal cruelty after a malnourished dog died had her bond reduced, court records show.
Victoria Shoopman, 61, saw her bond lowered from $50,000 to $10,000 on misdemeanor charges of cruelty to a companion animal and failure to register, according to Clermont County Municipal Court documents. The charges stem from an incident where a passerby found a severely emaciated dog, named Apollo, in Shoopman’s yard.
The passerby alerted a veterinary technician, who rushed Apollo to an emergency veterinary clinic. Despite efforts, the dog succumbed to its condition.
Shoopman was arrested in connection with the incident. A court order prohibits her from possessing companion animals, and wardens are authorized to seize any such animals from her home.
She is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 28.
