BATAVIA, Ohio — The Village of Batavia has cleared a stretch of overgrown riverfront along Riverside Drive, the first step toward building a new Riverwalk Park along the East Fork of the Little Miami River.
Village crews, not an outside contractor, cut through what officials described as solid underbrush covering the site, according to a village Facebook post. Just a few weeks ago, the property was thick with brush; now the ground is cleared and ready for the next phase of work.
With the land cleared, crews plan to grade the site, then seed and cover it with straw, the village said. Officials are aiming to get grass established before winter sets in.
The village said it plans to release a rendering within the next few days showing what the completed riverfront stretch could look like.
Riverside Drive runs along the East Fork of the Little Miami River through Batavia, the Clermont County seat. The road was formerly part of state Route 222 before it was redesignated. The village’s public works crews are led by Superintendent Wayne Smith, and Village Council is presided over by Mayor C. Scott Runck, according to the village website.
