BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Village Council will meet Tuesday instead of its usual Monday, opening a night of three public meetings that includes a hearing on expanding a joint economic development district with Union Township and first readings on new fireworks and nuisance ordinances.
The shift to Tuesday, Oct. 13, is a one-time schedule change, the village said in a Facebook post. All three meetings will be held at the Armory, and public comment is welcome at each one.

The night opens at 6 p.m. with the village’s Community Improvement Corporation, which is set to take up parking agreements on Riverside Drive and consider a new board member.
At 7 p.m., council will hold a public hearing on Joint Economic Development District 9, a tax-sharing arrangement the village shares with Union Township. Council will consider adding property to the district. JEDDs allow a municipality and a township to jointly develop township land for commercial or industrial use, with the municipality collecting a share of the taxes generated without having to annex the property.
Council’s regular meeting follows at 7 p.m. with first readings of several ordinances: 2027 temporary appropriations, new fireworks regulations, rules governing tall grass and property nuisances, and the removal of village stop signs that do not meet state requirements.
Council will also consider whether to ask voters if a commission should be convened to draft a charter for the village. Batavia currently operates as a statutory village under Ohio law, governed by an elected mayor and six-member council; adopting a charter would let residents write their own form of government rather than follow the state’s default structure.
Also on the agenda are the village’s contract with waste hauler Rumpke and September reports from the Police, Zoning and Public Works departments.
Full agendas for all three meetings are posted at bataviaoh.gov.
