BATAVIA, Ohio — The Clermont County Animal Shelter is appealing to the public to adopt or foster Larry, a roughly 2-year-old dog whose weight and spirits it says are slipping after a long stretch at the county’s no-kill kennel.
The 54-pound dog is playful, social and gets along with other dogs, but his “goofy personality isn’t shining quite like it used to” after so much time in the shelter, the agency said in a post. It said the stress of shelter life is taking a toll, and that Larry is losing weight.
“Shelter life is hard, even on the happiest dogs,” the shelter said. “We want Larry to be known for his personality, not how long he’s been waiting.”
The Clermont County Animal Shelter, at 4025 Filager Road in Batavia, is a public no-kill kennel that the county describes as a safe and caring place for stray, lost and neglected dogs. Its stated goals include reuniting lost pets with their owners, reducing the number of homeless dogs, placing animals through adoption and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
The shelter cares for about 800 dogs a year, according to the county. It also handles dog licensing, stray and lost-dog calls, and volunteer and foster programs.
Residents interested in adopting or fostering Larry can apply at clermontcountyohio.gov/animal-shelter or visit the shelter in person, the agency said. The shelter is open noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and is closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays.
