JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A fallen tree closed a stretch of Monterey-Maple Grove Road for an indefinite period, the Jackson Township Fire Department said Friday.
The road is shut down between U.S. 50 and Caudill Road after a tree came to rest across the roadway, the fire department said in a Facebook post. Officials asked drivers to find an alternate route and said an update would follow once the road reopens.
Monterey-Maple Grove Road runs through the unincorporated community of Monterey, whose post office operated from 1847 to 1957 and was named to commemorate the Battle of Monterey in 1846, according to public records. The road links U.S. 50, the township’s main east-west route, with the farmland that surrounds it in Jackson Township, a rural, agricultural community of about 3,100 residents spread across 31.2 square miles in northeastern Clermont County.
The Jackson Township Fire Department, based on U.S. 50 in Williamsburg, did not say when crews expected to clear the tree or when the road would reopen.
