MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Miami Township police are warning residents about a string of vehicle thefts and break-ins reported over the past several weeks, both within the township and in surrounding communities.

The thefts share a consistent pattern, the Miami Township Police Department said in a Facebook post. They are happening in the early morning hours and targeting vehicles that were left unlocked. In several cases, the department said, an ignition key or key fob had been left inside the vehicle, and the vehicle itself was then stolen.

Police urged residents to take a few basic precautions: lock vehicle doors, remove valuables and other items from plain view, and never leave an ignition key or fob inside an unattended vehicle. The department asked anyone who sees suspicious activity in their neighborhood to call its non-emergency line.
