BATAVIA, Ohio — About 26,000 homes and businesses in Clermont County remained without power Wednesday morning, down from a peak of roughly 40,000 overnight, according to the county’s emergency management agency.
Shawn Riley, administrator of the Clermont County Emergency Management Agency, gave the update to the Board of Commissioners at its meeting Wednesday, saying the outages stem from severe storms that swept through the Cincinnati region Tuesday. Duke Energy has crews working overtime to restore power as quickly as possible, Riley said.
Most of the damage reported so far involves downed trees and power lines, according to Riley, who said the agency will continue assessing the storm’s impact and share updates as more information becomes available.
Kris McClintick, who oversees the county’s Building Inspections and Permits Division, told commissioners that downed trees have struck at least 18 buildings across the county. Inspectors are examining those properties along with any additional reports that come in, McClintick said.
Clermont County remains under a flood watch through Wednesday evening, according to the county.
