MILFORD, Ohio — The Greater Milford Area Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help decorate Promont House Museum for the holidays, with decorating open to anyone willing to pitch in between Nov. 7 and Nov. 25.
Volunteers can come on their own schedule, whether for a full morning or just an hour, the historical society said in a Facebook post. No decorating experience is required, and participants can use decorations supplied by the museum or bring their own. The society is asking volunteers to help string lights in the windows, lay fresh greenery on the mantels and add festive touches throughout the house.
Promont, a three-story Italianate Victorian mansion overlooking the Little Miami River, was built in 1865 by William McGrue. Ohio Gov. John M. Pattison purchased the home in 1879 and lived there with his family. After taking office in January 1906, Pattison was too ill to remain in Columbus and directed state government from Promont until his death that June 18, according to the National Register of Historic Places.
The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. James Kirgan donated the property to the Greater Milford Area Historical Society in 1983, and it has operated as a historic house museum ever since, with Victorian-era furnishings, local history exhibits and public tours.
Anyone interested in volunteering to decorate Promont for the holidays can contact Executive Director Amy Pritts at [email protected] or 513-515-5227, the historical society said.
