BATAVIA, Ohio — The Batavia and Felicity branches of the Clermont County Public Library were closed Wednesday because of power outages caused by this week’s storms, the library said in a Facebook post.
The system’s other eight branches — in Amelia, Bethel, Goshen, Milford, New Richmond, Owensville, Union Township and Williamsburg — remained open during normal hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the library. The library said those locations were available to residents who lost power at home to charge phones, use Wi-Fi and access air conditioning and light.
The closures follow severe thunderstorms that swept Clermont County this week, knocking out power to roughly 40,000 Duke Energy customers countywide, according to the utility.
The Batavia branch dates to 1961, making it one of the library system’s oldest locations. It was renamed the Doris E. Wood Branch in 1990 for the system’s first head librarian. The Felicity branch opened Jan. 30, 1994. The Clermont County Public Library system traces to a 1948 countywide vote and began offering library services in 1955.
