WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor, R-Ohio, introduced the Make American Guns Again (MAGA) Act last week, aiming to bolster national security by mandating a report on the use of foreign-made or foreign-owned subsidiary-manufactured small arms and light weapons in the U.S. military.
The legislation requires the Department of Defense to detail the extent of non-American components in its small arms and light weapons inventory and provide recommendations for achieving a fully American-made supply chain. Seven other representatives joined Taylor in introducing the bill.
Although the Defense Department prioritizes American-made products for military procurement, it currently contracts with U.S. subsidiaries of foreign-owned manufacturers. Taylor’s office highlighted that this reliance on foreign-controlled entities poses a potential national security risk.
“It’s Ohio common sense – foreign entities should not control our military’s ability to defend our liberties,” Taylor said. “If our weapons supply chain is not secure, neither is our nation’s future. Buying American-made guns from American-owned companies ensures national security, supports domestic manufacturing, and creates well-paying jobs.”
Taylor represents Ohio’s Second Congressional District, which includes Clermont County.
