BATAVIA, Ohio — Clermont County Public Library’s Batavia Branch has installed an enclosed, sound-dampening study pod, giving patrons a private, quiet workspace without requiring one of the branch’s existing study rooms.
The glass-walled pod seats up to four people, includes wireless internet access and is available to reserve, the library said in a Facebook post. It sits on the floor of the branch’s main library space, in view of the young adult collection.
The Batavia Branch, at 180 S. Third St., already offers a genealogy collection, library lockers, a 3D printer, notary services, printing and mobile-printing capability, and traditional study rooms. The new pod adds a more private option for students, remote workers or small groups who need a contained space, according to the library.
The branch is part of the countywide Clermont County Public Library system, which traces its origin to a 1948 vote by county residents to establish public library service. A board of trustees was seated in 1949, and library service formally began in 1955 after funding was raised through a personal property tax. The system now operates 10 branches across Clermont County, following a period of major expansion in the 1980s and 1990s aimed at putting a library within about 15 minutes of every county resident. The Milford Branch, which opened in 1959, was the system’s first walk-in location, and the Owensville Branch, added in 1997, is the most recently opened of the current 10.
Patrons interested in using the pod can reserve a time through the library, the library said in its announcement.
