MILFORD, Ohio — The city has closed the westbound lane of Main Street between Locust Street and Garfield Avenue in the heart of downtown, rerouting drivers onto a parallel side street.
Westbound motorists should detour onto Water Street to get around the closure, the city said in a Facebook post Tuesday. The eastbound lane of Main Street remains open, and businesses along the closed stretch will stay accessible, according to the post.
The city did not say how long the closure will last.
Main Street has anchored Milford’s business district since the city’s founding in 1806, when the settlement consisted of just three streets — Main, Water and High — clustered around a crossing point on the Little Miami River that gave the city its name. The corridor, now lined with shops and restaurants, sits along the Little Miami Scenic Trail, a regional bike and hiking path that runs through downtown.
The lane closure comes as the city has separately notified residents that Duke Energy is carrying out a natural gas pipeline replacement project in Milford, with work planned along several downtown streets, including Main Street, Garfield Avenue and Locust Street, according to notices posted by the city and the utility.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” the city said in its post.
