BATAVIA, Ohio — A bridge over the East Fork of the Little Miami River will be renamed the “Veterans & First Responders Memorial Bridge” during Clermont County’s Veterans Day program Sunday, according to the county.
Clermont County Commissioner David Painter is scheduled to present a proclamation, and Batavia Mayor Steve Staton is scheduled to present a resolution renaming the bridge, the county said. The renaming is set to take place as part of the annual Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the steps of the Clermont County Common Pleas Court at 270 E. Main St. in Batavia, ahead of the county’s Veterans Day parade.
The program and parade are organized by the Clermont County Council of the American Legion and the Clermont County Veterans Service Commission. Retired Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Steve Balczo, the commission’s executive director, is this year’s keynote speaker, the county said.
A separate Veterans Day ceremony is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Helicopter Memorial in Union Township’s Veterans Memorial Park, at the corner of Glen Este-Withamsville Road and Clough Pike. Vietnam Veterans Chapter 649 is hosting the event, which will mark the organization’s 34th consecutive year holding the ceremony, according to the county.
The Wednesday ceremony will recognize all attending veterans by name and military branch, the county said. Golf cart transportation will be available for veterans who need it, and organizers have a rain backup plan in place.
