BATAVIA, Ohio — Village officials will hold a town hall this month to walk residents through how Batavia arrived at its current moment and where leaders want to take it next, covering growth, development and the village’s approach to annexation and tax abatements.
Mayor Steve Staton and members of Village Council will host the session Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at The Armory, 65 N. Second St., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., according to a post from the village. Residents are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] with their name and the number of people in their party to help organizers plan seating.
Batavia has served as the seat of Clermont County since February 1824, when county offices moved there from New Richmond. The village traces its roots to 1797, when Ezekiel Dimmitt settled along the East Fork of the Little Miami River; it was platted in 1814 and incorporated in 1842. The 2020 census counted 1,972 residents.

Residents who want their questions addressed during the session can submit them by Nov. 12, either by emailing the village clerk or dropping them off at Village Hall, the village said. The most commonly submitted questions will be answered during the meeting, followed by a moderated question-and-answer period open to all attendees under the same ground rules.
The Nov. 19 session is the first of two planned town halls. A second meeting, titled “This Is Home, Batavia Listens,” is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. and will focus on hearing directly from residents, according to the village. Thursday’s session will be recorded and posted on bataviaoh.gov for those unable to attend.
