MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two Miami Township Fire & EMS firefighters have completed Butler Tech’s paramedic program, adding advanced life-support certification to the department’s roster of cross-trained personnel.

Jacob Myrick and Michael Ruehr graduated from the program, the department said in a Facebook post. “An immense amount of time and effort goes into paramedic school,” the department said, calling the pair’s achievement cause for celebration.

Butler Tech’s paramedic program is based at the Regional Public Safety Education Complex in Hamilton and runs as a full-time, one-year course of classroom instruction, lab work and field and hospital externships. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs on the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, according to Butler Tech.

Graduates of the program go on to work in fire departments, private ambulance services and hospital emergency rooms, Butler Tech says.

Miami Township Fire & EMS operates four stations across the township and employs more than 60 full-time personnel, supplemented by part-time and volunteer staff, according to the department. All personnel are required to hold state EMT and firefighter certification, and most of the department’s full-time staff go on to become Ohio-certified paramedics. The department’s headquarters, Station 26, sits at the township government complex on McPicken Drive near state Route 28.
