WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Wayne Township woman was arrested and jailed without bail after authorities said she fired a gun inside her home and set curtains on fire following an hourslong argument, according to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.
Crystal Foster was charged with one count of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony; two counts of aggravated menacing, both first-degree misdemeanors; and one count of using weapons while intoxicated, a first-degree misdemeanor, the sheriff’s office said.
The Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call at about 4:18 p.m. Monday, June 29, from a residence in the 5900 block of Newtonsville Road, according to authorities. The caller reported that Foster had discharged a firearm inside the home following an argument that had gone on throughout the day.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene at 4:32 p.m. and found that Foster had also set fire to curtains inside the residence, the sheriff’s office said. Another resident extinguished the fire before deputies arrived, and there were no signs of an active fire when they got there. Deputies confirmed no one was injured, and Foster was detained for questioning.
The sheriff’s office’s investigations unit was notified and detectives responded to investigate. Detectives interviewed multiple adult witnesses who gave consistent accounts of the incident, according to the sheriff’s office. Witnesses said Foster intentionally set the curtains on fire and stated she was “going to burn this place down.” They also reported hearing a loud “pop” coming from a bedroom inside the home, authorities said.
Foster initially told deputies she had been drinking and fired the weapon “to prove a point,” according to the sheriff’s office. When detectives later interviewed her, she said she was not sure why she had set the curtains on fire and admitted to drinking alcohol throughout the day. She told detectives she fired the weapon to “show them she was serious and to make a point,” authorities said.
Foster was arrested without incident and taken to the Clermont County Jail, where she remained incarcerated without bail, the sheriff’s office said. She was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. at the Clermont County Municipal Courthouse.
