GOSHEN, Ohio — A Goshen Middle School teacher has been awarded a $5,000 grant that will pay for an array of sensory and flexible-seating equipment for use throughout the school, the district said.
Missy Mirus received the GMS Building-Wide Sensory Grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Goshen Local Schools said in a social media post. The money is funding a Gaga Ball pit, sensory swings, spinning chairs, an exercise bike, weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, large gaming and sensory stations, and flexible seating for students, the district said.

Goshen Middle School, on Goshen Road, serves grades 6-8 in the Goshen Local School District, a Clermont County district led by Superintendent Brian Bailey.
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, founded in 1963, is a community foundation serving an eight-county region spanning Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, including Clermont County. The foundation says it has invested more than $2 billion in the region since its founding. Its grant programs for local classroom teachers have provided educators up to $5,000 to enrich instruction and supplement resources for students, according to the foundation.

Photos posted alongside the announcement showed the new equipment set up in classrooms and hallways, including a sensory swing suspended from a metal frame and the fenced-in Gaga Ball pit already in use by students on the school’s blacktop.

“We are deeply appreciative of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and the profound impact this grant has made throughout our building,” the school said in its post. “Thank you for investing in our students and helping create a more inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment for all.”
