GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Students at Marr/Cook Elementary School raised more than $20,000 during a Boosterthon Fun Run held on school grounds Thursday, exceeding the fundraising goal set for the event, according to Goshen Local School District.
Students spent weeks ahead of the run collecting pledges from family and community members through Boosterthon’s online fundraising platform, the district said in a Facebook post. On event day, participants ran laps around a course on school grounds despite September heat, while classmates, teachers and family members cheered them on; students who opted not to run instead took part in a dance party inside the building, the district said.
Every dollar raised goes back to the school to fund enrichment opportunities and family engagement events, according to the district, which thanked students, families, staff, volunteers and the Boosterthon crew for the event’s success.
Boosterthon is a national school fundraising company that stages fun run events at elementary and middle schools across the country. In the weeks before an event, students complete daily challenges tied to character-building themes while collecting pledges online, then take part in a school-wide event in which they run, walk or dance around a course, according to the company.
Marr/Cook Elementary serves students in pre-kindergarten through second grade and enrolls roughly 645 students. It is one of the schools in the Goshen Local School District, which serves Goshen Township in northeastern Clermont County.
