BETHEL, Ohio — The village will open a temporary collection site Saturday for residents to drop off tree debris from this week’s storms, Bethel officials said in a Facebook post.
The site, a U.S. Department of Agriculture marshalling yard at 3079 Angel Drive, will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 15, according to the post. The village said the yard will accept only woody debris, such as downed limbs and branches.
The cleanup follows severe storms that swept through Clermont County on Tuesday, downing trees and cutting power to a peak of 40,000 homes and businesses countywide, according to the county. About 26,000 customers remained without electricity as of Wednesday morning, down from the overnight peak, county officials said.
Shawn Riley, administrator of the Clermont County Emergency Management Agency, said “most of the damage so far appears to be related to downed trees and power lines.” Building inspector Kris McClintick said fallen trees struck at least 18 structures across the county, and inspectors continued assessing additional reports of damage, according to the county. A flood watch remained in effect through Wednesday evening.
About a dozen county offices remained closed to the public Thursday because of the outages. By Friday, power had been restored countywide and all county offices had reopened, though a few roads remained closed, the county said.
