LOVELAND, Ohio — Trick-or-treating in Loveland will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, the city said in a Facebook post, asking drivers to use extra caution that evening as costumed children move through neighborhoods.
The Loveland Police Department is urging families to trick-or-treat in groups and stay in contact with a parent or guardian by phone, text or a location-sharing app, according to safety guidance posted on the city’s website. The department also recommends carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective clothing after dark, having an adult inspect all candy before children eat it, and skipping any house that looks dark or unwelcoming.
The department reminds residents that a child carrying a colored pumpkin pail may be signaling a disability: blue for autism, purple for epilepsy or another seizure disorder, and teal for a food allergy.
For families who can’t take part in traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, the Loveland Police Department and Hamilton Township Police Department are again running their “Candy Police” program, delivering candy and treats to children and adults with special needs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, according to the city. Residents who live within Loveland or Hamilton Township and want to request a visit for a loved one can email [email protected] or call 513-583-3000 with the recipient’s name and address and the requester’s name and phone number. Requests, along with candy or treat donations dropped off at the Loveland Safety Center, 126 S. Lebanon Road, are due by Oct. 25, the department said.
