BATAVIA, Ohio — Main Street will shut down for about an hour and 15 minutes next week to make way for Batavia High School’s homecoming parade, the Batavia Ohio Police Department said.
The closure runs from College Drive to Fifth Street from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 17, according to a post from the department. Drivers headed through the village’s downtown core that evening should plan for detours during the closure window.
Main Street runs through the heart of downtown Batavia, past the Clermont County Courthouse in the village that has served as the county seat since 1824. State Routes 32, 132 and 222 all pass through the downtown area, making the corridor one of the busiest in the village even before a parade adds to the mix.
The Batavia Ohio Police Department describes itself as a full-service community policing agency, with officers patrolling the roughly 3-square-mile village around the clock. Beyond emergency response, the department said its duties include code enforcement, traffic safety, community outreach and school resource officer work — the kind of coordination that goes into managing a route closure for a school event like the homecoming parade.
