BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Township will begin livestreaming meetings of its fire board starting Oct. 19, expanding a monthslong push to broadcast local government meetings online, the township said in a Facebook post Tuesday.
Meetings of the Central Joint Fire and EMS District board will be filmed and livestreamed on the township’s YouTube channel, joining the Board of Trustees, Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings that have been broadcast there since September, the township said. Recordings will remain archived on the channel afterward for residents who want to watch later.
The fire board, known by the acronym CJFED, oversees emergency services for Batavia Township and the Village of Batavia through a roughly 25-year-old joint partnership between the two governments.
The addition comes weeks before Batavia Township voters decide the fate of a new 8.4-mill fire and emergency services levy on the Nov. 3 ballot. Trustees placed that levy before voters in July after a larger, 9.5-mill levy to create an independent township fire department failed in the May primary, with unincorporated-area voters rejecting it 55.5% to 44.5%, according to certified results from the Clermont County Board of Elections.
The township’s Board of Trustees is chaired by Rex Parsons, a lifelong township resident who previously served as the township’s first administrator before joining the board in 2020. Trustees Randy Perry and Danielle Wessel round out the three-member board. Fiscal Officer Jennifer Haley, who is serving her sixth term, is a founding trustee of the Central Joint Fire and EMS District board.
Residents can find the livestreams and archived recordings by searching “Batavia Township Clermont County, Ohio” on YouTube, the township said.
