NEW RICHMOND, Ohio — The Clermont County Public Library’s New Richmond branch will host Navy veteran and author Jim Serger on Nov. 7 to discuss his three-book series honoring the first responders, rescue workers and troops connected to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, with proceeds from book sales benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
The program, titled “Ohio Serves: Remembering Veterans, First Responders & Front-Line Heroes,” begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at the branch, 103 River Valley Blvd., according to the library. The event is open to adults, and the library is asking attendees to reserve a spot in advance.
Serger, who delivered the keynote address at New Richmond’s 25th anniversary commemoration of the Sept. 11 attacks in September, will discuss his published books honoring those who responded to the attacks and who served in the rescue and cleanup efforts and the military conflicts that followed, the library said in its announcement.
Serger’s first book, “9:11 A Time to Always Remember,” published in 2022, compiles personal recollections of the attacks. His second, “9:11 A Time to Always Remember: Bond of Firefighters,” carries a foreword from retired FDNY Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano and features accounts from firefighters who responded that day. His third, “9:11 A Time to Always Remember: Salute to Service,” carries a foreword from Brad Wenstrup, an Army colonel who represented Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Clermont County, in the U.S. House from 2013 to 2025, and focuses on military members’ recollections of the attacks and their aftermath. All three books will be available for purchase at the event, and 100% of the royalties go to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, according to Serger’s author website.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established in December 2001 in tribute to FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who died after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to reach the World Trade Center when the attacks began. The organization became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2003 and has since delivered more than 1,000 mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responders’ families, along with specially adapted “smart homes” for catastrophically injured veterans, committing more than $500 million across its programs, according to the foundation.
Serger has also raised money for the foundation by bicycling across the country with a fellow Navy veteran, according to his website.
The New Richmond branch is open Mondays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays noon to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
