CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A 2-year-old boy’s medical emergency after ingesting marijuana led deputies to an illegal marijuana grow operation in Clermont County, authorities said.
Clermont County sheriff’s deputies responded June 19 to a home on Laurel Lindale Road in Monroe Township for a report of an unresponsive toddler. The 911 caller indicated the child may have ingested marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies took the boy to Children’s Hospital, where he tested positive for cannabinoids and is expected to recover, officials said.
The child’s mother, 20-year-old Brooklyn Maffey, told investigators she was unsure how he became unresponsive. Detectives later determined the incident occurred at another home on Ivy Farm Way in Pierce Township, where 38-year-old William Wilson lives.
A search warrant executed days later turned up a large marijuana cultivation and trafficking operation. Authorities seized $24,600 in cash, 11 firearms, 45 marijuana plants, 12.33 pounds of marijuana flower, 25.48 pounds of mushroom spores, 754.1 grams of THC derivative items, 147 pills and other items used in cultivation and trafficking.
Wilson acknowledged having direct knowledge of how the child came into contact with the substance, officials said. He faces charges of corrupting another with drugs and weapons under disability.
Maffey was charged with endangering children and corrupting another with drugs.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
