WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio — The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office sent its newest Junior Police Academy class home Friday with diplomas in hand, closing a five-day academy that ended with a behind-the-scenes tour of Great American Ball Park and a graduation ceremony in front of family and friends.
The final day, July 10, took the students to the Cincinnati Reds’ riverfront ballpark, where the group toured the stadium and learned about the operations of one of Ohio’s best-known sports venues, the sheriff’s office said in its recap of the week.
The week closed with a ceremony in a Williamsburg school gymnasium, where Sheriff Christopher Stratton addressed the cadets and each student was recognized for completing the academy. The office described the week as one of “training, teamwork, and personal growth” for the students.
The graduation capped a schedule that ran all week, including a final day of defensive tactics and physical training on Thursday, according to the office’s daily updates from the academy.
The sheriff’s office credited a roster of local supporters for underwriting the program: Jersey Mike’s at Eastgate, the Batavia Police Department, the Pierce Township Police Department, Cherry Grove Skyline Chili and the Deputy Bill Brewer 2055 Foundation.
That last name carries weight in the county. The foundation honors Detective William “Bill” Brewer Jr., the Clermont County deputy who was fatally shot Feb. 2, 2019, while responding to a standoff in Pierce Township. The nonprofit created in his memory supports local police and fire agencies and schools — including, now, the next generation of would-be deputies.
