LOVELAND, Ohio — Loveland Dairy Whip is Clermont County’s only stop on the Ohio Ice Cream Trail, a distinction the seasonal soft-serve stand has held since the annual guide’s early years, according to Discover Clermont, the county’s tourism office.
The trail, put together by TourismOhio and Ohio.org, grew to a record 195 stops for 2026, with 49 new locations joining 146 returning favorites. The list started in 2018 with just 15 stops. TourismOhio said it selects shops that serve Ohio-made ice cream or have become longtime staples of their communities, and the full trail is published as an online, printable guide at Ohio.org.
Loveland Dairy Whip opened July 8, 1955, at 611 W. Loveland Ave., and has operated from the same location every summer since, making it one of the region’s longest-running seasonal stands. The business has stayed in local hands for decades: Marian and Jim Flint owned the Dairy Whip from 1972 to 1986, and their daughter, Teresa Flint Morgan, has owned it since 2001 with her husband, Rick. Morgan began working there at age 11, bagging hamburgers for her parents.
The stand originally served hamburgers alongside its ice cream under a “Fifth Wheel Hamburgers” concept popular in the 1970s before narrowing its menu to soft serve and specialty desserts. Today it’s known for soft-serve cones, sundaes, cyclones and parfaits, along with specialty flavors such as Blue Moon, Dreamsicle and Cake Batter, some incorporating cake from local bakeries.
National Ice Cream Day, observed the third Sunday of July, comes as Ohio’s dairy industry underpins the statewide trail. The state ranks 11th nationally in milk production, with more than 1,400 dairy farms and roughly 250,000 cows producing more than 660 million gallons of milk a year, according to the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which promotes Ohio-made dairy products through its Ohio Proud program.
