BATAVIA, Ohio — About 13,000 Clermont County homes and businesses remained without power Thursday afternoon, with Duke Energy crews aiming to restore most service by midnight, the county said in a Facebook update.
The count is down from a peak of roughly 40,000 customers who lost power when severe thunderstorms swept the region Tuesday night, snapping trees and utility poles across the county. Some isolated areas could stay dark longer than the midnight target, the county said, as crews continue working through storm-damaged lines.
Officials said some of the outages involve structural or property damage on top of the loss of power, and the county is coordinating recovery efforts with the Clermont County Emergency Management Agency. The county said it would share additional updates as they become available.
Residents were asked to check on friends, family and neighbors as cleanup continues over the coming days and weeks. Anyone with a critical need was asked to contact the county through Facebook Messenger, and officials said they would work to connect residents with appropriate resources.
The outage stretches into a third day of recovery from Tuesday’s storms, which also toppled trees onto several county roads and forced closures at government offices this week.
