BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Township trustees will weigh property nuisance abatements, two liquor license requests and continued fire levy funding when the Board of Trustees holds its regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 1, according to the agenda posted by the township ahead of the session.
The meeting will be held at the Batavia Township Community Center and Park, 1535 Clough Pike, and is open to the public, the township said in a Facebook post announcing the agenda.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on a resolution authorizing the abatement, control or removal of vegetation, garbage, refuse or debris at three properties: 4277 Taylor Road, owned by Pamela Hamm; 2265 Old State Route 32, owned by Walter and Deana McCoy; and 4234 Roselawn Ave., owned by Vanguard Contracting LLC, according to the agenda.
The board is also set to weigh in on two liquor license requests before the Ohio Division of Liquor Control — a new license for Café Amelia at 6 Amelia-Olive Branch Road and a transfer of an existing license to the Salty Rim Mexican Bar & Grill LLC at 2235 Bauer Road, Unit 8. Trustees plan to approve both requests without asking for a hearing before the state, the agenda shows.
Trustees also plan to discuss fire levy funding and consider resolutions backing two pieces of state legislation, House Bill 778 and Senate Bill 307, that would shield fire and EMS levies from being reduced by tax abatement programs such as tax increment financing and community reinvestment areas. House Bill 778, introduced by state Reps. Kevin Miller, R-Newark, and David Thomas, R-Jefferson, would amend Ohio law so that property tax exemptions no longer apply to levies that fund fire protection and EMS services.
The discussion comes months after township voters rejected a levy in May that would have created an independent township fire department in place of the township’s arrangement with the Central Joint Fire and EMS District. Trustees later voted to place a new levy before voters on the November ballot.
Also on the agenda: a $5,000 state grant for a roof replacement at Olive Branch Cemetery, a $7,935.03 contract with Kanga Roof of Amelia to do the work, and a $19,327.42 contract with Neyra Paving for sealcoating and line striping at the township’s parking lots and walking path.
Trustees will also consider a $600 right-of-way permit for utility work on Apple Road requested by a Loveland resident, and a $5,635 contract with Griffin Sports Equipment of New Richmond to repair backstop netting at the UC Clermont baseball field, an expense the university has agreed to reimburse, according to the agenda.
The board also plans to recognize township resident Connie O’Conner for her service on the Parks and Events Advisory Committee from 2024 to 2026.
The three-member board is chaired by Rex Parsons, a lifelong township resident who has served as trustee since January 2020 after a career that included a stint on Batavia Village Council and 17 years as the township’s first administrator. Trustee Randy Perry, a more than 30-year township resident who has served since 2012, works in commercial plumbing and co-owns Rising Star Stables. Danielle Wessel, a registered nurse who joined the board in January 2026, previously founded the township’s Better Breathers Club and created the 5K The Clermont Way community event. Fiscal Officer Jennifer Haley, elected to her sixth term in 2023, is a founding trustee of the Central Joint Fire District Board and a former volunteer EMT.
Trustees are also expected to enter executive session to discuss economic development negotiations and a personnel matter, the agenda states.
