MILFORD, Ohio — Classic cars and 19th-century baseball will share Miami Meadows Park on Sept. 12, as Miami Township hosts a free Veterans Appreciation Car Show and vintage baseball exhibition as part of its Second Saturday Series.
The car show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park, 1546 State Route 131, giving visitors a chance to browse classic vehicles, the township said in a Facebook post. At noon, the action shifts to the ball field for a three-team vintage baseball exhibition featuring the Reds Hall of Fame’s 1869 Red Stockings, the Miami Township GOATS and a City of Milford squad, with games continuing until 4 p.m.
The 1869 Red Stockings taking the field are a modern club honoring Cincinnati’s original Red Stockings, baseball’s first openly professional team, which went undefeated at 57-0 in 1869 under player-manager Harry Wright. Wright and his brother, shortstop George Wright, were later inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The present-day team has played under the Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club since 2000, following the rules and customs of the 1869 season, including fielding without gloves, and is affiliated with the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.
Fans can also meet Cincinnati Reds mascots Mr. Redlegs and Gapper from 1:30 to 3 p.m., according to the township.
Food and drink vendors will operate throughout the day. Maryland Flava will serve breakfast, and the Milford-Miami Township Chamber of Commerce will pour coffee and mimosas in the morning before offering other adult beverages later on, the township said. Squeezy Fresh Lemonade, Kona Ice of East Cincinnati and D’s Concession will also be on site.
The event is the latest installment in Miami Township’s Second Saturday Series, sponsored this month by Evans Funeral Home and Stitch & Style Alterations, according to the township.
Miami Meadows Park spans about 200 acres off State Route 131 and includes sports fields, walking trails, a dog park, a fishing lake and wetland habitat, according to the township.
