BATAVIA, Ohio — Clermont County commissioners voted 2-1 last week to move forward with a Washington Township request to vacate part of Big Indian Road, over the objection of a commissioner who wanted to wait for a related court appeal to be resolved first.

The Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. 116-26 on July 22, acknowledging a resolution from Washington Township trustees requesting the closure of a section of Big Indian Road, designated T-33, according to county meeting minutes. The action sets a site viewing for Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. and a public hearing for Aug. 19 at 11 a.m., both at the commissioners’ office, 101 E. Main St. in Batavia.

Commissioner Claire Corcoran cast the dissenting vote, saying she believed the board should wait until an appeal tied to a prior lawsuit involving a property owner was resolved before proceeding with the vacation, the minutes said. Commissioner David Painter and County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Shrive discussed the earlier lawsuit during the meeting, and Shrive told the board an appeal in the case had been filed the previous week, according to the minutes.
