BATAVIA, Ohio — Clermont County is growing nearly three times faster than Ohio as a whole, county officials said Wednesday, as they detailed the housing initiatives launched since the county completed its first comprehensive housing study last year.
Kris McClintick, director of the county’s Department of Community and Economic Development, updated the Board of County Commissioners on the work underway to address the study’s findings, according to a post from the county. Data from the period examined showed Clermont County’s population grew nearly 6%, compared with about 2% growth statewide, the county said.
McClintick told commissioners the county’s priorities include creating more housing options, directing growth toward areas with adequate infrastructure, preserving older homes, expanding senior housing options and reducing barriers for first-time homebuyers, according to the post.

The county is also working with individual townships on land-use planning, streamlining permitting processes, coordinating infrastructure needs, and supporting housing rehabilitation and down-payment assistance programs, the county said. McClintick presented commissioners with an interactive online StoryMap summarizing the study’s findings and the county’s response.
The update comes more than a year after the county commissioned its first-ever housing study, conducted by the Philadelphia-based firm Urban Partners and funded through a federal Community Development Block Grant. Commissioners heard the study’s full findings in July 2025, when Urban Partners reported that Clermont County’s population had grown by about 18% since 2000, reaching an estimated 209,862 residents, and that roughly 19,000 households in the county were housing cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing. The consultant also found building permits had surged, with 5,869 issued countywide in 2024 and 3,212 more in the first six months of 2025.

The Board of County Commissioners is led by President Bonnie Batchler, with Vice President David Painter and Claire Corcoran also serving as commissioners.
