BETHEL, Ohio — A gas leak closed South Main Street in the village Wednesday, prompting a brief traffic detour before Duke Energy crews repaired the line and reopened the road within hours, the Bethel-Tate Fire Department said.
The leak was reported along South Main Street just south of South Street, the fire department said in a social media post. Firefighters closed Main Street at South Street and rerouted traffic onto Clark Street as a precaution while Duke Energy was notified and sent a crew to the scene.
Duke Energy had a quick response, the fire department said, and the roadway was back open a short time later.
The Bethel-Tate Fire Department operates out of Clermont County Station 2 and provides fire and EMS coverage for about 12,000 residents across roughly 48.5 square miles spanning the Village of Bethel and Tate Township in southeastern Clermont County, according to Tate Township. The department, staffed by a mix of full-time and part-time or volunteer firefighters, responds to about 2,000 calls a year.
South Main Street runs through the heart of downtown Bethel, a village of roughly 2,600 residents whose municipal building sits a few blocks away at 120 N. Main St.
