BATAVIA, Ohio — The Clermont County Historical Society will spotlight the Revolutionary War veterans who put down roots in Clermont County with a free public talk Saturday at the Batavia Branch Library.
Cindy Johnson, the historical society’s secretary and historian, will present “Clermont County and the American 250: Honoring Our Revolutionary War Veterans” at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at the library, 180 S. Third St., according to the historical society.
Johnson has spent months researching the men who fought for American independence and later became some of Clermont County’s earliest residents, the historical society said in a Facebook post announcing the talk. Many arrived in the years after the war, clearing land and working as farmers, millers and merchants; some prospered while others lived in poverty, according to the post. The society’s announcement teased that the county’s Revolutionary War veterans even included former pirates.
The presentation is part of a broader research push by the historical society tied to America’s 250th anniversary, the milestone the nation will mark in 2026. The Clermont County Historical Society, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting the county’s history, recently relocated its headquarters to the Batavia Armory at 65 N. Second St., according to the organization.
Saturday’s talk is free and open to the public.
