MILFORD, Ohio — Milford and Winton Woods school officials are increasing security for Friday’s football game between the two districts following an incident this week at Winton Woods North Campus that led to an arrest, according to a joint statement from both districts’ superintendents.
Milford Exempted Village Schools Superintendent Bobbie Fiori and Winton Woods City Schools Superintendent Steve Denny said they have been working with law enforcement to prepare for the 8 p.m. Friday matchup between the Milford Eagles and the Winton Woods Warriors at Winton Woods High School.
The Forest Park Police Department believes an incident Tuesday evening on the Winton Woods North Campus was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to students, staff or the public, according to the statement. An arrest has been made in connection with the incident, and the police investigation continues, the statement said.
Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased law enforcement and security presence on and around the Winton Woods North Campus before, during and after the game, according to the districts. Milford’s school resource officers will also be present, working alongside law enforcement and security personnel serving the Winton Woods campus.
“We recognize that this week has brought understandable questions and concerns about safety following Tuesday evening’s incident on the Winton Woods North Campus,” Fiori and Denny said in the statement. “As superintendents, we want the families of both districts to know that we hear those concerns, take them seriously, and have been working together with our law enforcement partners in preparation for Friday night.”
The superintendents said administrators, athletic departments and law enforcement from both districts share one priority for Friday: the safety and well-being of everyone in attendance.
