LOVELAND, Ohio — The city’s summer movie series comes to McCoy Park this weekend, pairing a free showing of “Back to the Future” with a costume contest built around the 1985 time-travel comedy.
The movie will play at sunset Saturday at McCoy Park, 471 Oak Street, as part of Loveland’s Movie in the Park series, according to a post from Loveland city government. The series normally screens at Phillips Park, across the street from Loveland High School, but this showing has been moved to McCoy Park.
Before the film begins, the city is inviting residents to enter a costume contest built around the movie’s characters. Categories include Best Marty McFly, Best Doc Brown, Best Family Costume, Best Time Traveler and Most Creative, the city said. The event is free and open to all ages.
“Whether you’re channeling Marty McFly, Doc Brown, Biff, Jennifer, or creating your own time-travel-inspired look, we want to see your best costume before the movie begins,” the city said in its announcement.
McCoy Park, in the southeastern part of the city, has seen a series of upgrades over the past decade. The city replaced the park’s playset and added a picnic shelter in 2017, resurfaced its tennis and basketball courts and added pickleball striping in 2019, and renovated its restrooms in 2023, according to the city. The park also includes two baseball fields and an on-site parking lot.
The “Back to the Future” screening is the first of two movies in this year’s series. The city plans to show “Ghostbusters” on Aug. 29 at 9 p.m., back at its usual home of Phillips Park.
