LOVELAND, Ohio — The city is asking residents and businesses to contribute items to a new time capsule marking its 150th anniversary, with submissions due by Oct. 30.
The city is collecting photos, letters, recipes, memories or business materials that capture life in Loveland in 2026, according to a Facebook post from the city. Submissions are limited to one item per resident or business, no larger than 8½ inches by 11 inches, and residents are encouraged to laminate items or seal them in a waterproof bag.
Items can be dropped off at Loveland City Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The project is part of the city’s sesquicentennial celebration. Loveland was incorporated as a village on May 16, 1876, and later became a chartered city on July 25, 1961, according to public records. The community took its name from James Loveland, who operated a general store and post office near the downtown railroad tracks; the settlement had previously been known as Paxton.
The city said the new capsule will be placed at the future Nisbet Park Amphitheater and will remain sealed until 2076, when Loveland marks its bicentennial.
The project follows the recent rediscovery of an earlier time capsule that had been buried more than 100 years ago. Water damage limited what could be preserved, the city said, though the find offered what officials called a rare glimpse into Loveland’s early days.
