MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Miami Township will host a free outdoor concert and movie night at its Civic Center on July 31, pairing a patriotic performance by the Sycamore Community Band with a screening of Disney’s “Miracle” as part of the township’s America 250 commemoration, according to a post from the township.
The concert begins at 7 p.m., and residents are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The Sycamore Community Band is a full symphonic ensemble founded in 1974 by Pete Metzger, who served as music director until 2021, when Robert Browning succeeded him. The band draws musicians from a range of professions, including doctors, dentists, teachers, lawyers and engineers, ranging in age from 18 to 80, according to the band’s website.
Following the concert, the township will screen “Movie Night in the Park(ing) Lot,” featuring Disney’s “Miracle,” a 2004 film dramatizing the U.S. Olympic hockey team’s run to a gold medal at the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York.
The event is part of Miami Township’s programming tied to America 250, the multiyear national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. The township has marked the milestone with other projects, including a mural depicting local history planned for the Fitness Court wall in Community Park, developed with the Clermont County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce.
