MILFORD, Ohio — Promont House Museum will open to the public Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., giving visitors a chance to walk through the 1865 Italianate mansion that once served as the home of a sitting Ohio governor.
The Greater Milford Area Historical Society, which operates the museum at 906 Main St., said in a Facebook post that the last tour of the day will leave at 3 p.m. and encouraged visitors touring the home to also take time to walk the grounds.

Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for students 13 and older. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult or member.
The hilltop mansion overlooking the Little Miami River was built in 1865 by William McGrue. John M. Pattison, who became Ohio’s 43rd governor, purchased the home in 1879 and lived there until his death in 1906. Pattison, weakened by illness, returned to Promont the same day as his January 1906 inauguration in Columbus and directed the state government from the house for the remainder of his term.
The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. James Kirgan donated it to the Greater Milford Area Historical Society in 1983, and it has operated as a historic house museum since, with docent-led tours of its Victorian-era rooms and furnishings.
