UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Union Township Police Department will open its headquarters to the public Saturday for an open house featuring a grill-out, station tours and a chance to meet the department’s K-9 unit, the department said in a Facebook post.
The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the department’s headquarters, 4312 Glen Este-Withamsville Road, according to the township. In addition to the cookout and tours, visitors can see police equipment displays, meet officers and pick up giveaways for children, the department said.
The open house is part of the department’s broader push to connect with residents outside of calls for service. The department also runs a Citizens Police Academy, women’s self-defense classes and children’s gun safety instruction, and it hosts an annual Police Night Out each summer at Veterans Memorial Park, where residents can meet officers in a festival-style setting.
Union Township Police was established in 1965 with two part-time officers, after the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office had provided policing services for the township. Paul Herrmann served as the department’s first chief. The department added its own communications center in 1984, which still handles 911 dispatch for the township and the Village of Amelia, and has since grown into a 60-member, full-service, internationally accredited agency.
Chief Anthony Rees has led the department since March 2023, when the Board of Trustees appointed him to the post. Rees has worked in law enforcement for 25 years, rising through the ranks as a patrol officer, investigator, patrol sergeant and staff sergeant before serving as operations lieutenant.
