MONROE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Monroe Township has postponed its Trunk or Treat and Safety Day because of an unfavorable weather forecast, pushing the community event back to Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Trustee Lindsey Aranyos and Fire Chief Michael Welch announced the change in a Facebook post, saying the decision was made to keep the event safe and enjoyable for families. The gathering had originally been planned for this weekend, but organizers said weather conditions were beyond the township’s control.
The rescheduled event will be held at 2828 state Route 222 in Bethel, with vehicle owners asked to arrive by 4:30 p.m. to set up candy-filled trunks ahead of the 5:30 p.m. start, according to the township. The evening will include a fire truck tour and a chance for families to meet local first responders and pick up safety information, along with prizes for best-decorated trunk and best family costume.
The event pairs a traditional trunk-or-treat with a safety showcase from Monroe Township Fire & EMS, which serves about 31.7 square miles in southwestern Clermont County from two stations, according to the department. The department has grown from an all-volunteer operation prior to 2004 into a hybrid force of roughly nine full-time employees, about 30 part-time staff and volunteers who provide fire suppression and advanced life support around the clock, the department said.
Monroe Township is governed by a three-member board of trustees that also includes Tom Peck and Arthea Morgan, according to the township’s website. The township had a population of about 7,531 residents as of the 2020 census and contains no incorporated municipalities, though it includes the unincorporated communities of Point Pleasant, Nicholsville and Laurel.
Township officials asked residents to help spread the word about the new date.
