BATAVIA, Ohio — West Clermont Local Schools told families Tuesday that an increased presence of law enforcement and emergency personnel at West Clermont High School this morning is tied to a routine, previously scheduled safety meeting and does not reflect any threat to the school.
The district’s quarterly safety meeting was set for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the high school, 4101 Bach Buxton Road, according to a notice West Clermont Local Schools posted to Facebook. The meeting brings together district staff and the district’s safety partners as part of the district’s ongoing school-safety work, the district said.
“There is no emergency or safety concern,” the district said in the post. “This is a regularly scheduled meeting bringing together district staff and our safety partners as part of our ongoing commitment to school safety.” The district said it wanted to make the community aware in advance “to avoid any unnecessary concern.”
Every school building in West Clermont has an established safety team that meets at least quarterly, according to the district’s safety and security webpage. The district works with multiple outside agencies on school safety, including the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, Union Township Police Department, Union Township Fire Department, Pierce Township Police Department, Pierce Township Fire Department, the Central Joint Fire-EMS District and the Clermont County Emergency Management Agency, the district’s website says.
West Clermont High School and West Clermont Middle School both maintain school resource officers during school hours, and the two buildings periodically conduct searches of the buildings in coordination with local law enforcement, according to the district. The district’s safety protocols also include visitor sign-in and badging, building video monitoring, annual ALICE emergency-response training review and an online emergency-preparedness system shared with first responders.
