UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The West Clermont Local School District’s Treasurer’s Office has again earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, this time for the district’s fiscal year 2025 annual comprehensive financial report, the district said in a Facebook post.
The district credited Assistant Treasurer Terri Johnson and the rest of the Treasurer’s Office staff with the recognition, which GFOA calls the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The Chicago-based GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement program in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to exceed the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and to produce reports that reflect a commitment to transparency and full disclosure, according to the organization. An impartial panel of reviewers evaluates each government’s submission, and the program draws participation from a minority of governments nationwide — GFOA says about 68% of cities and 46% of counties with populations over 50,000 take part.
To win the certificate, a government must publish an annual report that is easily readable and efficiently organized while meeting both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements, GFOA says.
West Clermont’s Treasurer and chief financial officer, Daniel Romano, has led the office since August 2020. He previously served as treasurer and chief financial officer for the Toledo and Sylvania city school districts and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Toledo, along with Ohio school treasurer and business manager licenses.
Johnson, the assistant treasurer, was pictured in the district’s announcement alongside Treasurer’s Office staff members Cassidy Crooks, Paula Wolfe and Daniel Schuh.
West Clermont serves about 8,100 students in preschool through 12th grade across seven elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district spans 54 square miles that include Union Township and portions of Batavia, Monroe and Pierce townships, along with the former village of Amelia, making it Ohio’s 23rd-largest school district among the state’s 610 districts.
“Behind this recognition are countless hours of careful work, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving our district and community well,” the district said in its post announcing the award.
