CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A Hamilton County man has been indicted after allegedly threatening to shoot a Clermont County Common Pleas Court judge over a bond decision.
Ian Doty, 41, of Elmwood Place, was arrested last month in San Diego, California, by the San Diego Police Department, authorities said. He admitted to making the threatening phone call to the court, investigators said.
Doty was upset about the release of former Bethel police Chief Chad Essert from jail on a $500,000 bond set by Judge Victor Haddad, according to court documents.
A Clermont County grand jury indicted Doty Thursday on one count of intimidation.
Doty has a prior criminal history in the region. Eight years ago, he pleaded guilty to menacing after threatening to fight police officers at Cincinnati State. Two years later, he was sentenced to two years in prison for attempting to abduct a woman riding a bicycle near Eight Mile and Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township.
